Shoutout to the smoke alarm that yelled at me at 6:45pm so I picked the oven over the microwave
Last Tuesday I got home late and had two sad options for dinner. Option one was leftover chili from Sunday, reheated in the microwave for 3 minutes. Option two was a frozen pizza in the oven, which takes 18 minutes and I was already hungry enough to eat a napkin. I picked the pizza because I wanted the crispy edge, and I set a timer on my phone like a responsible adult. Well, my phone was on silent and I got sucked into a work email thread about the Toledo warehouse account. Next thing I know the kitchen is full of smoke and my smoke alarm is going off so loud my neighbor banged on the wall. I yanked the pizza out and the bottom was black as charcoal, but the middle was somehow still frozen. I ended up scraping the cheese off with a butter knife and eating it over the sink like a raccoon. The smoke alarm is the real hero here because without it I would have just had a charcoal frisbee and a story for the fire department. Has anyone else had a smoke alarm save a meal you were about to completely forget about? I need to know if I should just buy a pizza stone or give up on frozen food forever.
