Tried baking cookies on a sheet pan vs. a silicone mat for the first time last night

The mat stopped the bottoms from burning but the edges still got crispy, has anyone else had that issue with the heat distribution?

Had a similar thing with brownies last month, the mat saved the bottom but the edges went rock hard before the middle was done. Switched to a dark metal pan and it helped even things out a bit, the silicone traps moisture in a weird way. Might be worth trying a lower temp with a longer bake time, that's what fixed my crispy-edge situation.

Oh man, I tried the same thing (because I am a disaster in the kitchen) and my edges turned into little hockey pucks. The mat definitely saved the bottoms from turning into charcoal, which was a win, but the crispy edges drove me crazy. I ended up using a light colored pan with the mat and dropped my oven temp by 25 degrees, and that seemed to help the heat spread out more evenly. My cookies still weren't perfect, but at least you could bite into them without chipping a tooth.
