I finally figured out why my pancakes kept sticking to the pan

I was using a nonstick skillet that was maybe 5 years old and had all these micro scratches in it from metal spatulas (oops). After burning 3 batches in a row last Sunday, I swapped to a beat-up cast iron with butter and they came out perfect. Anybody else get stubborn about replacing old pans and regret it?

Used to be all about nonstick until my roommate pointed out my pan looked like a scratched CD. Swapped to cast iron and never looked back.
