My mom's old cast iron skillet forgave everything, and my new nonstick pans burn at 375
I was cleaning out my mom's kitchen last month and found her cast iron skillet, the one she cooked with every single morning since about 1978. I have been cooking on nonstick pans for 15 years and somehow I still scorch eggs at medium heat while that old pan never once gave her trouble. It got me thinking that we traded something real for convenience, because I have thrown out four pans in the last two years and hers sat on the same burner for four decades. My husband jokes that I need a smoke alarm as a timer, and honestly he is not wrong. Does anybody here still cook on cast iron, or did everybody else give up like I did?
