The $8 pancake flip spatula that finally convinced me

I used to think any old spatula worked for pancakes, until last Sunday when my cheap plastic one snapped mid-flip and sent batter all over the stove. My kitchen looked like a crime scene and I almost gave up breakfast for good. Then my neighbor handed me her thin metal spatula and said 'try this, it's about wrist angle not strength.' Turns out she was right, I was flipping too hard and too fast. Has anyone else had a tool failure that made them rethink their whole technique, or is it just me?
