The smoke alarm duet with my neighbor saved my burnt chili

Last Tuesday I walked away to grab a beer and came back to a pot of chili that looked like charcoal briquettes, plus my neighbor banging on the wall asking if I needed a fire truck. Has anyone else had a kitchen fail that turned into a weird bonding moment with someone nearby?
