TIL that 'just add more salt' advice nearly ruined my chili for 12 people
My buddy Mark told me to add salt to fix a bland chili right before a party. I dumped in 2 tablespoons like he said, then simmered it for 20 minutes. By the time folks arrived, the chili tasted like a salt lick and I had to make a quick batch of unsalted chicken stock to dilute it. Next time I'm tasting as I go instead of trusting a one-size-fits-all tip. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a friend that backfired big time?

2 tablespoons" for a whole pot of chili is wild, man. Like that's an insane amount of salt even if you were seasoning a giant stockpot. Your buddy Mark must either hate your cooking or he's got some seriously messed up taste buds. I would have poured it all out and started over if I saw someone dump that much in. Diluting with stock was a smart save though, I would have just panicked and ordered pizza.

That's a real shame when someone ruins a good pot of chili.
