Watched my neighbor try to fry a turkey in his garage on Thanksgiving and had to say something
So last Thanksgiving I'm walking my dog past my neighbor Dave's house around 10am and I see him dragging a 15 pound turkey and one of those big outdoor fryers into his closed garage. I stopped and asked what he was doing and he says it's too windy outside so he's doing it in the garage with the door cracked. I told him that's how people burn their houses down and he laughed it off, said he'd done it in there before. Not 20 minutes later I hear a huge whoosh and his garage is full of black smoke and flames are licking up the wall where the fryer sat. I ran over and helped him drag the fryer out to the driveway while his wife called 911. Fire dept showed up in 6 minutes and put it out, but he lost the garage wall, a shelf full of tools, and the turkey was a charcoal brick. He got lucky, only about $4,000 in damage and nobody got hurt. Has anyone else had to talk a friend or neighbor out of a dumb cooking setup, and did they actually listen or did it blow up in their face like this one did?
