My bandsaw blade snapped mid cut on a whole hog and I had to finish with a hand saw
Last Tuesday I was breaking down a 210 lb hog for a restaurant order when the blade snapped right at the weld about halfway through the loin. I shut it down, pulled the blade, and swapped in my spare, but that one started walking all over the place so I said forget it and grabbed the hand saw. Took me 25 extra minutes to finish the cuts and my arm was rubber by the end. What saved me was keeping the spine side up and letting the weight of the carcass help the saw pull through instead of forcing it. Finished the order with 10 minutes to spare and the chef never knew. Got me wondering if I should keep a second spare blade on the wall now, how many of you keep more than one on hand?
