Pro tip: check your band saw blade tensioner before a big order

Had my band saw let go mid-break on a 200 pound pork shoulder last Tuesday. That blade came flying off and whipped across the shop floor. Took me 45 minutes to get it back on and re-tensioned right, plus I had to scrap the cut on that shoulder cause the bone was all chewed up. Anyone else ever have a tensioner fail on them mid-job or am I just unlucky?

Same thing happened to me a few months back, makes you wonder how many things in life we just assume are solid until they snap on us. Did you ever figure out what caused it to fail in the first place?

Oh man yeah... when I had that happen I started looking closer at the little things that usually hold up. What finally fixed mine was tightening the bolts on the bracket underneath. It was loose for who knows how long and the whole thing just wore down over time. I never would have thought to check there until someone pointed it out. Then I gave everything a good clean with some wd40 and it's been solid ever since. Sometimes the simplest thing is the one you overlook.

45 minutes to fix a blade" sounds like a you problem, not a real disaster.
