Question about the best way to handle a slipped knife
I was working a Saturday morning shift at the shop back in October 2016, breaking down a side of beef for our weekend rush. My knife slipped off a piece of fat and went right into my left hand between the thumb and index finger. Blood everywhere, had to close my station and drive myself to urgent care for four stitches. It taught me that I was getting too comfortable with a dull blade and not paying attention to my grip. Has anyone else had a close call like that and changed how they hold their knife?

Yeah, that dull blade thing is real (learned that myself the hard way). I switched to a Victorinox after my slip and honestly, keeping it sharp made a bigger difference than any grip change. A sharp knife bites where you aim it, a dull one wanders.

Wait, so you're saying the sharpness was the real problem all along? I actually see it differently. A sharp knife cuts cleaner sure, but if your grip or technique is off, it'll just make a deeper cut in the wrong direction faster. I cut myself worse with my sharpest knife because I slipped and it went right through my finger tip like butter. Dull knives force you to be careful, you know? They let you feel the resistance and adjust. Sharp knives give you false confidence until you mess up.
