Question about those cheap plastic cutting boards from the big box store

I grabbed a pack of three thin plastic boards for about $15 last month thinking they'd be fine for quick jobs. They warped after the first wash in hot water, and one split right down the middle when I was breaking down a rib section. Wasted the money and had to stop mid-job to grab a proper board. What do you all use for a good, affordable cutting surface that can take a beating?

Those thick restaurant boards are great, but they can get pricey. A solid wood board is actually a good middle ground if you treat it right. Just oil it now and then and it lasts for years.

Ugh, those things are the worst. Had the same thing happen with a cheap set from a discount store. Warped into a taco shape just from some warm soapy water. Tried to chop an onion and the whole board slid around the counter. Total junk. I just use a thick plastic one now, the kind restaurants have. Got it years ago and it's still flat.

My friend bought that exact three pack and his board snapped in half trying to slice a bagel. It's like they're made from recycled soda bottles and bad intentions. You expect a cutting board, not a single-use plastic platter that gives up on life. I switched to a basic rubber one from a kitchen supply store, cost maybe twenty bucks. It's ugly as sin but it doesn't move and hasn't warped after two years of abuse. Those flimsy boards are basically a prank sold in the home goods aisle.
