Started using a small paintbrush to apply rubs on game meat and it's a total game changer

I was working on a batch of venison roasts from a hunt in Montana last fall, and my usual method of just sprinkling the rub left clumps. I grabbed a clean 1-inch paintbrush from my garage and tried brushing it on instead. The rub spread evenly and stuck way better, especially in the nooks. Anyone else have tricks for getting rubs to stick to wild game?

Used to think it was overkill. Honestly, that brush trick works way better than my hands ever did.

Ever try a little bit of oil first? I mean, I'll pat the meat dry then give it a super light coat of something neutral like avocado oil with my hands, then go in with the brush and rub. It's like the oil gives the rub something to grab onto, and the brush pushes it into that thin layer instead of just sitting on top. Makes a huge difference on lean cuts that don't have much fat to help it stick.

Just use your hands, feels more natural.
