Switched to a different sharpening stone for my boning knives last month

I was using a 1000 grit stone for years, but my edges never lasted more than a day of heavy work. A guy at the supply house in Tacoma told me to try a 3000 grit stone for the final pass. I did it for a week, and now my main boning knife stays sharp for almost three full days of breaking down primals. The finer edge just seems to hold up better against sinew and cartilage. Anyone else find a big change from a simple switch in their sharpening routine?

My old 400 grit stone was actually making my edges wear down faster.

Makes me wonder how many other small, boring tweaks would make a huge difference in my own daily grind.

What if the biggest tweak is just noticing them? Like @the_faith said, it's the boring stuff. I spent years hating my morning until I moved the coffee maker to the counter by the sink. No more walking across the kitchen half asleep. Such a dumb change. But it fixed the whole start of my day. Makes you look at every annoying little step differently.
