PSA: my cousin lost 3 months of back pay in Sacramento by signing the wrong paper
So my cousin Dana got hurt at her warehouse job in Sacramento back in March, right, and the workers comp doctor put her on light duty. Last week she calls me freaking out because she finally went to a disability lawyer and he told her she probably gave up 3 months of back pay by signing some paper the adjuster handed her in the parking lot. The adjuster told her it was just to confirm her address or something. The lawyer said it was a release and now they're fighting to undo it. The worst part is she could have gotten a free consult back in April and none of this would have happened. The lawyer said this kind of thing happens all the time with adjusters rushing people before they talk to anyone. If someone from the insurance company hands you anything to sign after you get hurt, take a picture of it and call a lawyer first. Has anyone else dealt with an adjuster pulling something like this? I want to know if there is any shot at getting that money back.
