Tried a flat fee lawyer for my SSDI case and got denied faster than with a contingency firm
I paid a lawyer $2,500 upfront in San Diego to handle my disability claim thinking it would save money, but they rushed through the paperwork and I was denied in 4 months. Has anyone else had better luck with the contingency payment model where you only pay if you win?

Yep, sounds about right for a flat fee set up.

Flat fee lawyers have no reason to fight for you, that's why you got denied.

$5000 flat fee for a simple denial appeal. Guess how many times my lawyer picked up the phone. Once. After the 90 day deadline passed. Real shocker they had no fight in them.

Next time ask for a fee breakdown in writing before you sign... they'll usually charge by the hour but cap it. I got burned the same way with a VA claim lawyer who took my money and did nothing until I filed a complaint with the state bar association. That's the only thing that got their attention - a formal ethics complaint.
