A client in Phoenix insisted I build their cabinets with a 'rustic' finish using actual mud.

They brought a bucket of dirt from their yard last month, mixed it with water, and asked me to brush it on before the poly. Has anyone else gotten a finish request that wild?

Seriously, they just wanted dirt from their yard on their cabinets? Did they at least pay extra for that custom "mud glaze" or did they expect it for free because they supplied the dirt themselves. What happens when it just turns into a dusty mess in a year, are they going to call you to fix it. Some people just want to say they have a story more than they want a piece of furniture that lasts.

Yeah, the "just want a story" part is so true. It's like they're buying a conversation piece, not actual furniture.

Man that dirt is gonna flake off everywhere the second the humidity changes.
