Dropped $340 on a Lamello biscuit joiner for face frames, and it saved my butt on a 14 door kitchen in Boise
I was building face frames with pocket screws for years and half of them would shift just enough to show a gap at the stile. Bought the Lamello Classic X for around $340 with the assorted biscuits and it paid for itself on one job, a 14 door kitchen out in Boise last month. Every joint lined up flush because the biscuits lock the faces in plane before the glue sets, no more clamping gymnastics with a square in one hand. The crazy part is I barely touch my pocket screw jig now unless it's a quick shop cabinet or something painted. Anyone else here switch to biscuits for their frames, or am I late to this party?
$340 seems like a lot to fix a problem that a $40 clamp and some patience usually solves. I've done plenty of face frames with pocket screws and yeah, they shift sometimes, but you just hold the joint flat while the screw pulls tight and it's fine. A whole 14 door kitchen lining up perfect is nice, but one good job doesn't mean the biscuits are what did it. Plenty of guys run pocket screws for years without gaps if they're careful.
