Just read that some old cabinetmakers used to mix egg whites into their glue
I was flipping through a book on 18th century furniture at the library and it said they did this to make the hide glue set faster in cold shops. Who even thought to try that first, cracking an egg into a pot of glue? Has anyone here ever tried a weird old trick like that, or is it just a dusty book story?

Probably a very hungry apprentice.

Totally, that tracks. I once saw a guy try to microwave a frozen burrito with the foil still on because he was in a hurry for lunch. Same energy, just trying to solve the immediate problem without thinking.

Nah, that apprentice is just trying to get out of doing the real work. They always find the weirdest shortcuts and then act like it's some kind of genius move. I've seen this happen before and it never ends well for the project. Bet they were just rushing to finish up and go on break.
