My old boss in Milwaukee insisted on using a 1/4 inch roundover bit for all drawer fronts, said it was the 'only way'. Tried it on a walnut commission and the client hated it.

My uncle in Chicago had that same rule for years. A maple dresser with a softer edge totally changed his mind.

But what if that one exception just proves the rule was right all along?

Actually read an article about this exact thing. It said people often have strong feelings against certain furniture styles until they see a well made piece in person. The finish and the way light hits it can make all the difference. Sounds like your uncle's maple dresser was a perfect example of that. Makes you wonder how many other "rules" we have that just need one good exception to break them.
