Shim stock pileup cost me 4 hours on a built-in last month

Last month I was fitting a media wall unit for a client in Maplewood and I spent half the day shimming the damn cabinet because I didn't sort my scraps by thickness first. I had a box of random 1/16 and 1/8 pieces mixed together, so every adjustment meant digging through the pile twice. Now I keep a small organizer with labeled slots for each size, costs me maybe 20 bucks at Home Depot. Does anyone else sort shims by thickness, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
