Shoutout to the guy who told me to track reject rates

I always thought I was pretty careful with my cuts. But last week I hit 50 pieces of scrap from one job and that number really got to me. Turns out I was rushing through setup because I wanted to beat the clock. Now I take 10 extra minutes to dial in measurements and my scrap pile is way smaller. Anybody else ever track their waste like this or am I just weird?

Jumped on that same wagon a few months back. I started keeping a scrap tally on a dry erase board near my saw, and seeing those numbers climb was a real gut check. Now I force myself to double check every measurement before the blade drops, and my waste rate is down by almost half.

Dry erase board trick works. I just mark the cut length right on the stock with a pencil now.
