Soft-close hinges are ruining more jobs than they save
Been installing cabinets for 14 years, mostly in the Charlotte area. Everyone and their brother specs soft-close hinges on every door now. I get it, they feel nice in the showroom. But I've had three callbacks in the last two months where the piston failed within a year. The cheap ones from the big box stores might as well be disposable. I've started telling clients to spend the extra $2 per hinge on Blum or Grass, or just go with a regular self-close and save the headache. Am I the only one pushing back on this trend, or has anyone else seen the failure rate climb?
