Stopped using plastic laminate for good after a shop fire scare

Used to slap plastic laminate on every job. Quick, cheap, looked fine at first. Then last spring I saw a kitchen where laminate bubbled and peeled near the stove. Heat got under the edge, looked terrible after only 2 years. Switched to hardwood veneer with a solid core. Takes me an extra 40 minutes per door but the payoff is real. Customers notice the difference right away. Anyone else ditch laminate for veneer and never look back?

My cousin lost a whole workshop to a laminate fire back in 2017, so I feel you on that scare. It’s wild how something that looks so harmless can turn into a real hazard when heat gets involved. Honestly, the extra time on veneer feels like a small price to pay for peace of mind and better work.
