The client's 'vintage' maple in their Chicago loft was full of railroad spikes and I had to resharpen every blade on site.
I spent three hours pulling metal fragments from the boards and had to call my supplier for an emergency delivery of fresh blades, so has anyone found a reliable metal detector for lumber that doesn't break the bank?

Maybe just get a cheap stud finder with a metal setting.

Honestly, those cheap ones can't find studs behind plaster walls.

Wait, metal setting? Sandraflores, you know plaster walls usually have metal lath behind them, right? That's going to make the whole wall beep with a metal detector. My last place had those walls and my cheap finder went nuts nonstop. You'd have to get one that actually senses density change, not just metal, or you'll never find a stud. It's honestly why I just knock and use a small nail to probe now.
