Tried a 45 degree miter on a crown molding return yesterday, flipped my saw the wrong way

I was doing a small bathroom job in Evanston and thought I had my miter saw dialed in perfect but the piece came out backwards and left a 1/8 inch gap. Spent 20 minutes trying to fudge it with filler before I just cut a new one. Any tips for remembering which way to tilt the saw for inside versus outside corners?

Huh, that "flipped my saw the wrong way" part hit home. I used to think inside corners were just tilt left always, but then I did a kitchen job in Oak Park and realized if you're doing a return on a outside corner you gotta flip the tilt. It's a total mind bender.

Lost a whole afternoon once because my brain couldn't handle the flip.
