Vent: Spent a whole Saturday with a power planer and it was a mistake
I was trying to flush trim some cabinet doors for a client in Phoenix last month and grabbed my power planer instead of a hand plane. Thought it would save time but it chipped the edge on three panels and I had to redo them. Went back to my old Stanley block plane and got perfect results in half the time. Anybody else find power tools just don't work as well for fine cabinet work?

Power planers are great for rough work only.

Is it just me or does that hold true for a lot of stuff these days? I notice it with kitchen gadgets too. Everyone wants the fancy electric mixer or food processor but sometimes a simple whisk and a bowl gets the job done faster and with less cleanup. We get tricked into thinking faster is always better but it usually just means more headaches. Glad you stuck with that old plane, those tools have been around forever for a reason.
