Appreciation post: chose a 12 inch flex bit over a 6 inch in Omaha last month and it paid off
Was running cable through a tight chase in a 1950s house and the short bit kept bottoming out on a stud nail plate. Ended up grabbing the longer one from the van and it slid right past, so what bit length do you all keep on the truck for old construction?
Man, I used to swear the stubby bits were all you needed and that long ones just wobbled and wandered. Then I hit the same thing you did, a nail plate in a 50s ranch kept stopping my 6 inch dead in its tracks. Grabbed a 12 inch off the shelf just to try it and it walked right past the plate and out the other side clean. Now I keep one long flex bit in the bag for exactly that old construction mess, since you never know where the plates are hiding. Wish I'd switched sooner honestly.
