Overheard a customer say 'the wire's sticking out the wall' and yeah.

Was doing a service call in a condo building and the neighbor was complaining about a cable jack that got pushed back into the drywall. Guy said his installer just shoved it in and left. Makes me wonder how many guys are skipping the low voltage bracket step. You ever get called back for something that just got tucked behind the wall instead of mounted right?

Got a call once where someones internet kept cutting out and I spent an hour checking the line and the modem and their splitters before I finally pulled the faceplate off the wall and the whole coaxial cable just fell out the other side. The last guy had literally just stuffed it into the hole and screwed the plate on over it with nothing holding it in place. I mean it worked for like two weeks until the cable slid back far enough to disconnect itself. Ended up having to cut a new hole and put in a proper low voltage bracket which is like a five minute thing if you just do it right the first time. Makes you wonder what other stuff gets skipped when nobody is watching.

Tbh though how do you know it wasn't just some homeowner who tried to fix it themselves and messed it up? I've seen people do way dumber stuff than that in their own walls.

I mean hold on though, maybe the last guy was just in a hurry or the customer was breathing down their neck. Ive had days where you're booked solid and the homeowner is already mad and you just need to get the job done and move on. Plus if it worked for two weeks that's not exactly nothing, like the guy probably figured it would hold long enough and maybe he was right if the customer hadnt called back. Idk I just think it's easy to judge from the outside when you dont know what pressure they were under.
