What I learned about coax prep after 8 years on the truck

I used to strip coax with a standard utility knife and always had trouble with braid fraying... then an old timer showed me his $12 cable prep tool and it changed everything. The difference is night and day, my signal readings went from borderline to solid in about a week of using it. Has anyone else found a simple tool that just makes your job way faster?

A coworker once spent ten minutes trying to fix a bad connector before realizing he’d been using the wrong size compression ring the whole time. He had a whole pile of them mixed up in his bag. Now he color codes all his rings with a sharpie and it saves him a headache every time. Kind of funny how the smallest thing can wreck your whole signal.

Oh man, I've done almost the exact same thing. Was setting up a home network and spent a solid 20 minutes re-crimping the same coax connector over and over because the signal kept dropping out. Finally looked at the bag of compression rings I'd dumped on the table and realized three of them looked identical but were actually different sizes. Now I keep them in separate labeled baggies instead of one big pile. It's always the dumb little stuff that eats up your whole afternoon, right?
