Why does nobody talk about how we used to tone and test every single drop with a butt set?
Back in 2008 in Denver I spent 20 minutes at every apartment just clipping on and listening for dial tone, but now it is all a $40 meter and a green light. The old guys swore by their ears and I still bring mine on every job, does anyone else miss that part or is it just me?
The "old guys swore by their ears" thing is real but I don't miss it at all honestly. A butt set tells you there's dial tone, not that the line is clean or the pair has issues you can't hear yet, and a good meter catches stuff my ears would never pick up. Twenty minutes per apartment adds up fast when you've got a whole building to finish.
