Got hit with a $3,500 surprise from my HOA in Irvine last month
Last month my HOA sent me a letter saying they found unapproved modifications to my patio from three years ago, which I had no idea were against the rules. They slapped me with a $3,500 fine and threatened a lien if I didn't pay within 30 days. Has anyone fought an HOA violation like this and actually won in California court?

My HOA tried the same thing and I fought it with a lawyer got it cut to $200.

Why would you pay a lawyer $500 just to save $300? You're basically handing over your win to the lawyer.
