HOA fined me $350 in Fresno for a drought-friendly lawn and I'm done pretending that's reasonable
Everyone says just pay the fine and move on, but three neighbors told me last week they got the same letter for replacing grass with rocks, so I'm wondering if anyone has actually beaten one of these at a hearing or if we're all just writing checks.

Wait, you really think $350 is worth fighting over when you could just pay it and be done? In my experience, HOAs have their rules written in stone and hearings usually end with you still writing a check, just after wasting a Saturday. Your mileage may vary, but three neighbors getting the same letter doesn't mean you have a case, it just means the board is on a tear right now. Take this with a grain of salt since I've never dealt with Fresno rules, but a drought lawn sounds like something they'd actually want, so maybe the issue isn't the rocks at all. If you're gonna fight it, go in with proof and photos, but don't expect some big win just because it feels unfair.
