Dropped $260 on a Hakko FX-888D after my old iron cooked a shutter blade
Back when I started fixing cameras in my garage in Toledo, I was using a $30 pencil iron off Amazon and it ran way too hot with no way to dial it in. One afternoon I was reflowing a solder joint on a leaf shutter and the tip nuked a blade before I could pull it off, so that repair turned into a parts hunt and I ate the cost. Bought the Hakko for about $260 and it paid for itself inside two months just from not frying stuff anymore. The temp control is dead steady and the tips last way longer than the cheapo ones I was burning through every few weeks. Curious what stations the rest of you run for board level work, is there anything decent under $150 that holds temp as well?
