Finally gave that ultrasonic cleaner a shot on a sticky aperture ring
I always thought those little ultrasonic baths were just for jewelry, not real camera work. But this old Nikon lens had a ring that wouldn't budge, even after my usual cleaning. I ran it through a 10 minute cycle with some simple green mix, and the gunk that floated out was insane. The ring moves like new now, zero force needed. Has anyone else found a specific lens or part that cleans up way better with ultrasound than by hand?

What kind of simple green mix did you use?

You saying "the gunk that floated out was insane" really hits home. I always figured these were a gimmick for watches, not serious tools. I had a 50mm f/1.8 with grease so old it was like glue. A five minute dip in the bath and it flushed out this nasty brown sludge I could never reach by hand. Totally changed my mind on what these cleaners can do.
