Fixing a film advance lever reminded me of my brother's stubbornness.

A little oil and patience works for both.

Yeah totally get that. My dad's old truck had this rusted choke cable that would stick every winter. Took me three days of WD-40 and gently working it back and forth before it finally loosened up. Reminded me so much of trying to get him to just fix the dang thing in the first place. Some things just need a gentle touch and time, right? What was your brother's camera jammed on?

My brother's Pentax had the film advance lever stuck halfway through a roll. Found a tiny spring inside had snapped, probably from him forcing it when it first felt tight. Your story about that choke cable, @the_hayden, is exactly right, it was all about patience. I used a set of tweezers and a lot of deep breaths over an afternoon to get the broken piece out. Felt the same kind of win you described, where the fix is just stubbornness and careful hands.

Explains why my projects always end up in pieces.
