Found out a Nikon F2 service manual says the shutter has a 1/80 sec flash sync that most people never use
I was flipping through an old Nikon F2 repair guide I picked up at a flea market in Cleveland last Saturday, and it mentioned the flash sync speed is 1/80 sec, which I always thought was 1/60. Turns out a lot of folks who shoot these cameras never even notice the difference on the dial. Has anyone here ever checked their F2's actual sync speed with a tester, and did it match the manual or was it off a bit?
I ran into the same thing with my F2 a couple years back. Grabbed a cheap shutter tester off ebay and checked it, and mine was actually firing a hair fast, more like 1/90 at the mark. But thats close enough that it never caused me grief with a speedlight. What I ended up doing was just taping a tiny label on the bottom plate so I would stop second guessing myself in the field. These old cameras drift a bit over 40 plus years so the manual spec is really just a starting point. If yours is in the ballpark youre fine, and if it bugs you a CLA will get it back on spec.
