Gave up on my $90 Hakko desoldering gun and went back to a $4 bulb, and I'm not going back
Spent 20 minutes fighting a clogged nozzle on a 1987 Nikon F3 circuit board last week in my shop in Akron, grabbed the old solder sucker and had all 6 joints clean in 3 minutes, so what else am I wasting cash on that a $5 tool does better?
Does it ever bug you that the "tools" we buy are really just someone else's parts bin marked up? I took apart a dead desoldering station once and the pump inside was a $12 aquarium air pump with a different sticker on it. The bulb works because there's nothing in it to break or clog, just suction and gravity doing the job. Half the stuff in my shop is like that now, cheap and dumb beats fancy and fussy every time.
