I cleaned a Nikon FM2 shutter with naphtha and it ran fast for a week, then froze solid
Picked up a rough FM2 at a garage sale in Reno for $40 and the shutter was sticking at 1/1000. I flushed the shutter with lighter fluid, let it dry, and it fired fine for about 5 days. Then it locked up completely, and when I pulled the baseplate the old lube had turned to glue and dragged a curtain spring into the works. So what's the move on these, strip it and relube properly with a real grease, or just send it out?

Man, lighter fluid is the classic trap, it thins the old lube just enough to work for a bit then it dries up and turns to tar. Tear it down, soak the shutter in naphtha to clean it out, then relube with a proper watch or camera grease and you'll be set.
