Just changed my mind about ultrasonic cleaners after a bad week with a stuck shutter

Had a sticky Copal shutter from a thrifted Pentax that I'd been fighting with Q-tips and lighter fluid for three days straight. Threw it in a borrowed ultrasonic cleaner on Monday and it was working perfectly by Wednesday, so I ordered my own that night. Has anyone else had a stubborn part that finally made them switch to something they were avoiding?

Yeah "like magic after one cycle" is exactly how I felt too. It's almost embarrassing how fast it worked compared to all that time I spent with qtips and solvent. I think the thing that gets me is how much cleaner the whole shutter looks after - not just the sticky part but all the old grease and dust that you can never really reach by hand. My buddy warned me that ultrasonic cleaners can loosen stuff up too much and you might have to relube certain parts, but so far I haven't had any issues with that. Honestly I'm kind of mad at myself for not trying one sooner, especially since they're not even that expensive for a basic model.

A buddy of mine spent two weeks trying to revive a sticky Mamiya shutter with canned air and toothpicks. He finally caved and got a cheap ultrasonic cleaner and said it was like magic after one cycle. Now he won't stop talking about how dumb he was for waiting so long.
