My mentor in Austin swore by using a 2mm hex key for every shutter tension adjustment, but I've found a 1.5mm gives me more control.

He trained me on that three years ago, but after a tricky repair on a Nikon FM2 last Tuesday, I'm convinced the smaller tool is better for fine work. Which size do you all prefer for those delicate adjustments?

My old boss at the camera shop in Portland always said a 2mm was the only way to go. He said it had the right torque for the job. But I totally get your point about the 1.5mm. I read a blog post last year by a tech who only works on Leicas, and she swears by the smaller size for vintage leaf shutters. She said it prevents stripping those tiny screws. I've been using a 1.5mm for my own fine adjustments ever since. The control is just so much better.

Yeah, that smaller tip saved my bacon last week.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy who tried to fix his old film camera with a 2mm. He totally chewed up two screw heads on the lens mount. It was a mess. He had to hunt down a whole new part. Switched to a 1.5mm after that and said it was like night and day, no more slipping.
