Nikon F2 finder foam vs. the $9 sheet of cork I almost used
Picked up an older F2 head and the prism foam was basically dust. Almost went with a craft store cork sheet since it was cheap and I was impatient. Glad I stalled for a week and ordered actual light seal foam from a shop in Minneapolis. The cork would have worked for cushioning maybe, but it soaks up moisture and sheds particles. The real foam cut clean, sits flush, and the meter readout is crisp again. Has anyone else tried a DIY alternative for finder seals and regretted it later?
Ran into the same thing with a beat up DP-1 finder last year and the foam was crumbling into the prism housing. Grabbed a sheet of craft foam from the kid's art bin as a quick fix and it turned gummy within a month from humidity. Ordered the real stuff from a camera shop after that and it cut clean and stayed put, lesson learned the slow way.
