PSA: I used to clean shutter blades with a cotton swab, now I only use a specific 2mm brush after a repair job in Seattle went bad.

That whole cotton swab thing brings back bad memories. Watched a guy at a camera meet try to clean a Contax with one, just a total mess. Little fibers got everywhere, stuck in the shutter curtain grease. Ended up making it way worse, like it needed a full teardown after that. Makes you really picky about tools.

I've had good luck with cotton swabs on my old lenses, just gotta be careful.

Cotton swabs are fine if you know what you're doing. That guy just messed up. I use them on lens elements all the time with a tiny bit of lens cleaner, zero fibers left behind. You just need the right pressure and to stop before they fray. Blaming the tool for user error is a cop out.
