Rangefinder patch alignment issue after a wedding shoot in Austin

I was doing a fast lens swap at a wedding in Austin and my Leica M3 took a bump on the pew. The rangefinder patch is now double imaging above 2 meters, and my local shop quoted $180 for a full alignment. Has anyone done a DIY fix with just a collimator, or is that too risky on a vintage body?
