Rant: A client in Austin insisted I just 'blow on the sensor' to fix his DSLR.

He said his buddy told him it works every time, but that's a great way to get oil spots and make it worse. What's the most misguided fix you've ever heard a customer suggest?

Honestly, how do people come up with these ideas? Tbh I had a friend who swore by using a cotton swab and his own breath to clean his camera sensor. Ngl, it was a mess after that. I finally just bought a proper sensor loupe and a static brush made for the job. It costs a bit but it's the only thing that actually works without leaving more junk behind.

My old boss swore by using a microfiber cloth on sensors. I tried it once and just smeared a tiny speck into a huge blur. After reading what wendyk56 said about canned air, it made me see all these quick fixes are risky. Now I leave it to the pros with the right tools.

Can you believe I used to think canned air was the safe choice for that? I saw a video where a guy showed what really comes out of those cans, all the propellant and moisture. It's basically spraying junk onto the sensor. I had to learn the hard way after I made a spot worse. Now I just save up and get the proper swab kit, no shortcuts.
