The before and after on this old Nikon F2 I picked up
Found a crusty Nikon F2 at a pawn shop in Phoenix for $40 last month. After 3 days of cleaning gunk off the shutter and replacing light seals, the difference is night and day - the mirror snaps up crisp and the meter actually works now. Any of you guys ever pull a real beat up body back from near-death like that?

Did you have any trouble getting the battery adapter conversion to fit right, or was it a straightforward swap on yours? I heard the newer ones can be finicky with the voltage regulators and sometimes throw the meter off a stop even after you change it. Curious if you had to do any fine tuning after that, or if it just worked once you popped the new part in.

Those old foam light seals turn into straight goo after 20 years. I had an F2 that sat in a garage in Tucson for a decade. Had to scrub the mirror box with alcohol and Q-tips for hours. The meter was stuck at 1.2V too, had to swap the battery adapter to get it working again. Worth every bit of effort though, that camera is built like a tank. Nothing beats that mechanical shutter sound when it's cleaned up proper.

Nothing beats that mechanical shutter sound" is exactly right. @nora_walker57 the adapter swap was pretty straightforward on mine, I just had to bend the tab a tiny bit.
