Tried JIS screwdrivers after stripping one too many screws with a standard Phillips

I was out in the field last Thursday working on a old Pentax K1000 and hit a screw that just would not bite. Ended up stripping the head after fighting it for 20 minutes. Got home and did some digging, found out JIS is not the same as Phillips. Ordered a set for $25 off Amazon. Used one on the same model camera today and it fit like a glove, no slipping at all. Made me wonder how many screws I've ruined over the years. Anyone else made this switch and noticed a difference on Japanese gear?

Wait is that what I'm doing wrong? I've got a old Nikon F2 sitting on my shelf with two stripped screws that I just gave up on. I've been using the same driver set from Harbor Freight for like 5 years and it never crossed my mind that maybe the tip shape is the problem. The screws on that thing are so tiny too, like the size of a pinhead. I might actually order some of those JIS bits and see if my luck changes. Worst case I'm out 25 bucks and still have a broken camera.

Oh man, I've been there with a pair of pliers and a lot of swearing! @sarah_hart is totally right though, I stripped a screw on a lens once with a generic bit and it still haunts me.

sarah_mason Yep, those Harbor Freight bits are probably rounding them off.
