Vent: A sticky aperture ring on a Canonet took me 11 days to fix and it was one screw the entire time
A customer dropped off a Canonet QL17 GIII at my bench three weeks back with an aperture ring that would not budge past f4. I soaked it in lighter fluid, pulled the front element twice, and even ordered a donor body off eBay for $38 thinking the internal cam was bent. On day 11 I finally noticed one of the three retaining screws on the ring was sitting about a quarter turn proud, just enough to drag on the housing when the ring rotated. Two minutes with a JIS driver and it spun like new. I felt like a total idiot for chasing a bent cam that was never bent. Anyone else burn a week and a half on something that turned out to be one loose screw?
