Working on a Leica M3 in my garage, I accidentally dropped the tiny shutter tension spring into a pile of sawdust.
After panicking for a solid minute, I used a rare earth magnet wrapped in a plastic bag to fish it out without scratching it, so has anyone else pulled off a similar save with tiny parts?

My version of that is dropping tiny screws into carpet. The magnet trick is a lifesaver, though my success rate is maybe fifty percent. The other half of the time, the vacuum cleaner gets a new snack.
