Had to pick between a jetboil and a cheap stove for a 10 day trip - huge difference

I took my old $25 camp stove on a week long trip in the Smokies and ran out of fuel on day 5 because it just burns through it. My buddy had a Jetboil and used half the canisters for the same amount of meals. The wind was the real killer too - my stove would flicker out while his just kept boiling water in under 2 minutes. Has anyone else noticed a huge fuel savings with those integrated systems or did I just get a bad stove?

Yeah @hugomurray is totally right. On my second day in the Smokies the wind was so bad I had to cup my hands around my cheap stove just to get it to stay lit. Meanwhile my buddy with his Jetboil was having hot coffee in like 90 seconds while I was still trying to get a simmer going after 5 minutes. The fuel savings alone made me cave and buy one after that trip. Wind just ruins those open burner stoves.

Used to swear by cheap stoves too until I borrowed a friend's Jetboil. Night and day difference.

Oh man totally! The wind is the whole game changer. Once I switched to a system that has a built in windscreen I felt like I wasted so much fuel for years.
